Under the direction of the Manager of Heritage Services (or designate), volunteers will provide garden maintenance up to three days per week.
Duties:
- Watering all flower beds and potted plants (hanging baskets, window boxes, urns)
- Cleaning up litter
- Digging, planting and weeding flower beds and borders
- Pruning shrubs
- Checking the health of plants by identifying any pests or diseases
- Maintaining high levels of presentation
- Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment
- Maintaining the Memorial Rose Garden
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Volunteer must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check.
- Punctuality, attention to detail, cooperativeness and adherence to safety guidelines are imperative.
- Must be willing and able to do physical work and/or lifting items weighing up to 20lbs.
- Dress code and other professional standards must be adhered to.
- Confidentiality expected.
- Professional gardening experience is ideal, but volunteers must have some gardening experience.
Additional Details:
Volunteers will book their weeks of work in advance for the gardening season.
Depending on weather, volunteers may not be needed every scheduled day.
Must have own transportation.
Must be able to work well independently, with other volunteers and the public.
CSA approved steel toe boots are required to be worn while volunteering in the gardens.
This opportunity runs May-October, for selected weeks. Shift times are flexible but must take place Mondays to Saturdays between 9 am - 4 pm.
