Brain Wave Café provides a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for people with dementia and their care partners to meet once a monthly for socialization, improving well being and reducing isolation. This group meets the 1st Thursday of each month at the Bowmanville Older Adults Ass. starting on Jan 5. 2023 from 1:30 - 3:00. The volunteer welcomes the guests and fosters a safe environment for the participates to enjoy conversation and discussion in a safe environment.  The volunteer will promote interaction and participation by providing positive verbal support and encouragement.  Volunteer will assist with offering tea, coffee and light refreshments to the participants.

Signing in for other volunteers is not permitted unless specifically approved by the Charity Coordinator (e.g. accessibility) Circulate the gaming floor to provide customer service and assistance including welcoming guests as they arrive and thanking guests as they depart on behalf of their organization Assist players with information on programs, events, games, and promotions as needed Assist players as needed on the technology basics of electronic gaming in the centre Flag game-winners for identification by staff to assist with verification process o Optional (recommended) – Assist with calling back winning cards for verification by a staff member (needs the agreement of the gaming centre operator) § In the event a card cannot be verified, volunteers are required to transfer the winning card to a staff member to assist Assist with keeping the environment clean (e.g. picking up used paper bingo products and empty containers ). Assist gaming centre staff with promotional events (e.g. handing out ballots) • Redirect any negative customer service issues to a staff member for resolution Be knowledgeable on where the charitable funds earned in the gaming centre are used in the community and provide the information to customers if requested. Participate and support all charity awareness activities and initiatives as directed by the Charity Coordinator. Those wanting to volunteer as drivers must also provide CLOC with a driver’s abstract, proof of G license, and valid automobile insurance.  CLOC recommends that people volunteering who prefer to use their own vehicle have liability insurance of $2 million or more.

Volunteer: Casual Outdoor Maintenance

Purpose: To keep Bethesda House, Outreach Centre and Second Chance Store properties clean and tidy.

Responsibilities:
- cutting grass in spring, summer and fall, as required
- trimming shrubbery
- clearing debris from the grounds
- notify supervisor regarding any repair or maintenance issues when identified
- removing snow from sidewalks, driveways and parking areas during winter, as required
- spreading down de-icing salt during winter, as required
- other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Knowledge of safe work practices, appropriate use of equipment, pleasant manner, ability to understand directions in English, willingness to learn and accept supervision, problem-solving ability, dependable, willingness to accept and work with people of diverse backgrounds.

Dress Code: Casual and comfortable, appropriate for work to be done, close toed shoes.

*Position not ideal for student unless can confidently prove knowledge as above and commit to being able to remove snow mornings before school commences.
