Purpose: To help with running our new & gently-used clothing store Second Chance and with sorting donations for Bethesda House. All proceeds from the store directly benefit Bethesda House and it's outreach programs. Most hours are available weekends only as location closes at 4pm weekdays.
Note: Students must have their own email address and apply to the position themselves.
Main Location: The Second Chance store at 25 King Street West, Bowmanville, Ontario.
Responsibilities:
- assist store customers
- keep store tidy (sweeping, mopping, straightening racks)
- handle cash, learn to operate register
- price and hang clothing for sale in the store
- work as part of a professional team with other store volunteers and Bethesda House staff
- learn about Bethesda House & Second Chance in order to promote to customers
- treat volunteering as you would a paid job with respect, promptness, respectable clothing and positive attitude
Length of Appointment: Scheduled for a 3 or 5 hour shift once per month, according to his/her availability. Hours are eligible for high school requirements.
Qualifications:
Dependable, pleasant personality, willingness to learn and accept supervision and take direction, ability to understand directions in English, willingness to accept and work with people of diverse backgrounds. Able to follow store and donations sorting procedures (you will receive training). Able to move reasonably-sized boxes and bags of donations.
Support: Training for this position will be provided and support is available for questions and assistance.
Dress Code:
Casual and comfortable. Appropriate for work being done. Close toed shoes.
