Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and driven Reporter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for news and storytelling, with strong research and writing skills. As a Reporter, you will be responsible for gathering and presenting news stories, conducting interviews, and delivering content that informs and engages our disability community.
Key Responsibilities:
News Reporting: Research, write, and present news stories and features for radio broadcasts. Ensure accuracy, fairness, and clarity in all reporting.
Story Development: Identify and develop compelling stories by researching newsworthy topics, conducting interviews, and gathering information from various sources
Field Reporting: Cover live events, breaking news, and on-the-ground stories as required. Use field equipment and technology to report from various locations.
Interviewing: Conduct interviews with newsmakers, experts, and community members. Prepare questions, facilitate interviews, and extract valuable information for listeners
Collaboration: Work closely with producers, editors, and other team members to coordinate coverage and ensure seamless integration of stories into the station’s programming.
Audience Engagement: Engage with listeners through social media, on-air interactions, and community events. Address listener feedback and incorporate audience perspectives into reporting.
Compliance: Adhere to broadcasting regulations, copyright laws, and the station’s policies. Ensure all content is legally compliant and ethical.
Professional Development: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in journalism. Continuously seek opportunities for professional growth and skill enhancement.
Cultivating Partnerships: Be involved in the disability community and foster relationship with ministries or municipal boards
Qualifications:
Previous Experience: as a journalist
Post Secondary Educational Background in journalism required
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of audio quality
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team
Time-management: Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete assigned tasks according to set deadlines
